EDUCATION GONE WILD

Reptile handling school experience North Wales Wirral

WHEN YOU BOOK A SCHOOL SAFARI, YOU’RE BOOKING A ROUND-THE-WORLD ADVENTURE FOR YOUR STUDENTS.

Engaging, inspiring, fun, and educational, our School Safari Session is the ultimate way to give children an experience they wouldn’t normally have: an up-close-and-personal encounter with reptiles and creatures from around the world.

Presented by our experience handlers, students will learn about a selection of different animals from across the world - with each child having an opportunity to interact with the animals, and ask as many questions as they like.

Based in Rhyl, we cover all of North Wales (Prestatyn, Llandudno, Wrexham), North West (Chester, Liverpool, Manchester), and the Wirral.

THE SESSION

We begin our journey in Indonesia, where the children are introduced to Thunder - our impressive blood python - and Xander, our friendly blue-tongued skink. Children will have the opportunity to stroke both animals, learning about textures and colour (with Xander flashing his blue tongue at them!).

Our next stop is Vietnam and India, where the children will learn about the creatures in “The Danger Zone”: our giant orange-legged centipede, giant forest scorpion, and Indian ornamental tarantula. As these animals are venomous, we give students the opportunity to come and view them from the safety of illuminated enclosures. The children will watch our scorpion glow in the dark, while they learn about the hyaline layer that causes it (like a natural sunscreen for scorpions!).

Next up: Madagascar and Yemen. During this part of the session, the children will meet Axl, our Yemen chameleon, Dolly, our tenrec (hedgehog lookalike!), and our giant Madagascan hissing cockroaches. Students will learn how chameleons use their colours to communicate, and why cockroaches make awesome pets!

We end our adventure in the rainforests of South America with Pikachu, the horned frog, and Apollo, our Brazilian rainbow boa. Children will learn about how these frogs breathe through their skin, and how Apollo uses his muscular strength to cling to the trees.

RESOURCES

To help your students get the most out of the Scaly Safari experience, you’ll have access to our School Resources - including fact sheets for every animal, colouring sheets, and a word search. Available to download individually, or combined in one PDF.

WHAT IT COSTS

The cost for a School Safari is £125 per hour.

This price applies to a 10-mile radius from Rhyl, and an extra £1.00 will be added per mile travelled beyond that.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE

The welfare of our animals is our #1 priority, and we will never compromise on that. We’ll only bring animals with us that we know will give your pupils the best experience. If the animal is shedding on the day of the session, or is showing signs of illness, we’ll exchange him/her for another animal.

All handlers will need to wash their hands in hot soapy water both before and after touching the animals.

We hold a permit from the council, are fully DBS-checked, and hold full public liability insurance.

Ready to book your School Safari? Complete the form and we’ll be in touch shortly to confirm your booking, and provide payment details. Please note: by placing your booking, you’re agreeing to our Terms of Service.
