Our animals are not only fascinating: they’re wonderfully therapeutic for the elderly, too. Interacting with reptiles can have a calming effect on the mind and body, and the slow, rhythmic movements of a tortoise or the steady breathing of a snake can provide a soothing sensory experience. Handling a reptile gently can help lower blood pressure and reduce stress levels, making it an excellent choice for elderly individuals struggling with anxiety or loneliness. Studies have shown that even the act of watching a reptile move can produce meditative benefits, promoting relaxation and mental clarity.
For elderly individuals suffering from dementia, Alzheimer’s, or other cognitive impairments, sensory engagement can be highly therapeutic. Handling reptiles provides tactile stimulation that can trigger positive cognitive responses. The cool, smooth texture of a snake's scales or the rough surface of a bearded dragon's skin offers unique physical sensations that can evoke curiosity and interest. HOW IT WORKS, AND WHAT IT COSTS
We’ll bring a selection of our Scaly Safari Crew to your care home, on the day of your choice.
We’ll introduce the animals to each resident, giving them the opportunity to get up-close-and-personal from the comfort of their chair. We’ll guide them through stroking and holding the animal, and tell them stories and facts for an enriching experience.
We find that residents LOVE having their photos taken with the animals, so take as many as you like!
The cost for a Senior Safari is £80 per hour.
This price applies to a 10-mile radius from Rhyl, and an extra £1.00 will be added per mile travelled beyond that.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE
The welfare of our animals is our #1 priority, and we will never compromise on that. We’ll only bring animals with us that we know will give your residents the best experience.
All handlers will need to wash their hands in hot soapy water both before and after touching the animals.
We hold a permit from the council, are fully DBS-checked, and hold full public liability insurance.
